Just a great place
We stayed at the Hacienda over the Labor day weekend. As it was my second time in Palm Springs I can at least compare to one other hotel and I must say.... Soooo much better. This is a real hotel, with lots of nice details and great and warm service. Nice staff, great rooms and very well maintained grounds. Can only recommend it and when we go to Palms Springs again, we would sure check in again. A Great Time at The Hacienda
This was the second stay for my partner and I at The Hacienda . We can't say enough about this resort. We were upgraded to the grand deluxe suit and we both felt we were in heaven. Since we visited during August the occupancy was low and therefore we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The staff was so nice and accomodating. We enjoyed being the center of attention and one morning had breakfast brought to our suite. It was worth getting up early just to enjoy the breakfast. Lunch was also a reat treat and we tried to make it back to enjoy it each day. Our unit had a private patio which afforded us the opportunity to be secluded for some special fun at night. I could go on forever talking about The Hacienda. Take your special guy or partner there and you to will think you are in heaven. Dezart One Gallery
Dezart One Gallery has quickly become the most exciting art destination in Palm Springs. The intimate interior of Dezart One Gallery has a crisp and minimal feel. The pristine white walls and concrete floors give the space a somewhat industrial feel and lend a perfect backdrop for contemporary and modern art. The gallery creates a calm and ascetic atmosphere that appeals to artists and art-lovers alike. Dezart One Gallery showcases the works of outstanding emerging and mid-career contemporary artists. Spanning a diverse range of mediums and working with clarity of vision. The gallery owners began with the premise of exhibiting representational and abstract artists, both of which have strong narrative elements. Dezart One Gallery is also the place for exceptional service; we encourage questions and conversation about the art and artists. Our staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, a quality not taken for granted by frequent gallery-goers. Both the new collector and those adding to established collections will find pieces that are sophisticated and accessible. We at Dezart One Gallery want more people to enjoy the unique experience of collecting contemporary fine art. The Location of Choice When in Palm Springs
A friend of ours suggested that we stay in The Hacienda during our first trip to Palm Springs earlier this month. We are very grateful to him for the recommendation. The Hacienda was absolutely beautiful. The accommodations are clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated. The amenities, including the bath amenities, are first class. And, the common areas, including both pools, are spotless, tidy, and beautiful. The staff and management were top notch, friendly, and accommodating. They had no idea that we were in California to be legally married. You can imagine our surprise and delight when we learned that we had been upgraded to the largest suite available. When informed about our impending civil marriage, they had a bottle of champagne with flutes delivered to our suite on the day of the ceremony. The Hacienda has already become our preferred location when in Palm Springs. We liked it so much that we're returning in April 2009; reservations have already been made. Palm Springs Desert Museum
Established in 1938, the Palm Springs Art Museum has become the center of the desert’s art community. What began as a museum about the desert has evolved into an oasis for the arts with Modern and Contemporary American works by artists such as Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Duane Hanson, and Mark di Suvero; Contemporary California painting and sculpture by Sam Francis, Edward Ruscha, Robert Arneson, Nathan Oliveira, and others; Studio Art Glass by Dale Chihuly, Howard Ben Tré, and William Morris; and Classic Western American Art by Thomas Moran, Charles Russell, Frederic Remington, and others. The modern building, designed by renowned California architect E. Stewart Williams, is the focal point of the 125,000-square-foot complex that also houses collections of Native American and Mesoamerican Art. Among the American photographers included in the Photography Collection are the Stephen H. Willard Collection and Archive, and the Bill Anderson Photography Collection. Architecture holdings include the Albert Frey Archive and Frey House II, and the E. Stewart Williams Architecture Archive. Moorten Botanical Gardens
Located at the southern end of Palm Canyon Drive, the Moorten Botanical Gardens and Cactarium is a favorite Palm Springs attraction and the enduring legacy of Patricia and Chester "Cactus Slim" Moorten. Both shared a love of the Desert and its beauty, plants and wildlife. Nicknamed Slim for his tall lanky form and work as a contortionist, Moorten was one of the original Keystone Cops and became the stand-in for Howard Hughes. Poor health led him to Palm Springs in the 1930s with his young wife Patricia, a biologist with a special interest in botany. Together they explored the surrounding area collecting desert plants and in 1938 created an arboretum. The Moorten Botanical Gardens now boasts 3,000 examples of desert cacti and other desert plants grouped by geographic regions: Arizona, Baja California, California, Colorado, the Mojave desert, the Sonora desert, South Africa, arid South America, and Texas. Outdoor collections include agaves, bombax, crested Cereus, cardon and boojum trees, arborescent "candelabra" Euphorbia, a two-story Pachypodium, thorned Caesalpinia and Bursera, and aloes of southern Africa and Madagascar. In the "Cactarium" greenhouse are cacti and succulents, with caudiciform species exhibiting thickened root crowns, many species of Asclepiads, Aztecia, Gymnocalyciums, Alstromeria, Euphorbia, and Ferocactus, plus two Welwitzia [...]
Palm Springs ShortFest
It's time to get your shorts on for the 2008 Palm Springs International ShortFest, held from August 21-27, 2008 at the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs, CA. Now in its 14th year, the Festival has announced its roster of 317 films, selected from a record of more than 2,700 worldwide entries. ShortFest will showcase 53 World Premieres, 47 North American Premieres and 24 U.S. Premieres. The selection of films for screening and competition features star-studded casts as well as award-winning films from 40 countries around the world. All selections are structured into 51 themed programs covering a wide array of issues for specific and general audiences to enjoy. The complete list of this year's film programs will be available on www.psfilmfest.org on August 11. Festival Director Darryl Macdonald commented, "This year's ShortFest line-up reflects a return to more personal themes in the world of short film storytelling, and a move away from the 'big issue' themes of recent years, like the Iraq War, immigration and 9/11. That and the increasingly sophisticated use of technical innovations in the short filmmaking process are the two big stories that emerge from the short film world this year." "The quality of work from these films has been [...]

Amazing Experience
I was planning a surprise birthday trip for my partner when a good friend recommended the Hacienda at Warm Sands. We had vacationed many times in Palm Springs but in the last few years were disappointed in the resorts we picked. I went on the Hacienda’s web site and liked what I saw. I followed up by calling and talking to the staff. They were very helpful and informative, as I painstakingly went through my plans and sought their advice. They even offered to shop for any items we wanted in our room on arrival. Although we didn’t use this service, it is something we will use when we return. The staff was warm and inviting, anticipating our every need. A complimentary bottle of wine was waiting for my partner as a gift from the owners. The hotel was impeccably maintained, clean, and wanting for nothing. Each morning the breakfast buffet offered an assortment of items that were more than anticipated for being an expanded continental breakfast. The location in Warm Sands was within walking distance to downtown and many of the best restaurants and gay bars, although we used a rental car. The staff was well informed and familiar with local dining [...]

Wonderful visit to the Hacienda
This is our third visit to the Hacienda and as always we had a wonderful time. Jim, Maurice, Caleb, Tom and all the staff always welcome us back warmly. We usually visit in the low season (summer) mid week and often have one of the two pools to ourselves. Our favorite thing about the Hacienda is that it is mostly couples just wanting to hang out together without being in a cruisey environment - if your going to Palm Springs to simply hook-up, there are other resorts more in line with that vibe. We have made some good friends with other guests as well during our stays and keep in touch with them afterward. Palm Springs is a great place to do nothing but hang out by the pool, go to the gym, and eat. Mount San Jacinto is great trip up the tramway as a morning excursion. Restaurant wise, we recommend Wangs and Citron. There are lots of others. The World Gym has a nice facility and the staff and clientele are very friendly - if you’re under fifty you will feel like a youngster.
